Burkleigh House Ferndale
Burkleigh House is a 62 year old home which has been substantially altered in the light of its newfound role as a first class guest house. The front façade has been wrapped in a large sunny veranda which is ideal for sundowners as it looks over the bustle of the city from an austere elevation, with views of mature trees, an acre of gardens and a sparkling pool.
Guests are welcome to indulge in the seclusion of several spots where they are able to read or view the bird life which have also made Burkleigh House their home.
Accommodation
Each of the 5 north facing rooms boasts an impressive array of modern amenities, high speed Wi-Fi access, plasma televisions and work stations for the enthusiastic business person. Each bed has sprung mattresses made up with crisp cotton percale sheets and duvets.
Room 1
Elegantly decorated in a French Provencal theme, boasting a white antique double bed and wardrobe. A west facing Juliet balcony with a view overlooking a bubbling fountain and the swimming pool. The bathroom has an extra large frameless shower with an antique mirror and accompanying fittings.
Room 2
Furnished with an antique extra length double bed and accompanied by an original 17th century Cape Stinkwood and Pearwood cupboard. The bathroom is also replete with antique mirrors and fittings.
Room 3
Pleasingly fitted with an antique extra length double bed and original 18th Century Cape Yellowwood cupboard and a Stinkwood chest of drawers. The Bathroom has a frameless shower and a unique take on an antique dressing table with original fittings.
Room 4
Styled in dark woods which are subtly offset by white walls, cream and chocolate linen and boasts an original Victorian Walnut cupboard ,extra length king size bed and mahogany chest of drawers. The workstation is equipped with a leather inlayed antique teak desk. An extra length king size bed. The bathroom completes this escape with Victorian styled ball and claw bath and frameless shower.
Room 5
Has a king size, extra length bed, which may be separated into two single beds, a Victorian Mahogany cupboard and a marble and walnut chest of drawers. The work station is replete with and executive leather inlayed desk and antique desk lamp. A full bathroom with an extra large frameless shower and Victorian style ball and claw bath epitomize the grace of a bygone era.
Facilities
The reception area, lounge and dining room showcase the best of our decades of collecting rare and beautiful antiques. Amongst which are a rare Chippendale dresser and an exceptional Mahogany cupboard found in Kimberley and believed to have belonged to Cecil John Rhodes. A fireplace creates a warm and welcoming ambience where you can enjoy sipping a sherry and listening to music.
Breakfast
Burkleigh House views service and personal attention as our best form of advertising and we delight in serving a full English breakfast in an elegant atmosphere. In summer you may choose to enjoy an alfresco breakfast or to indulge with tea and cream scones or home made lemonade.
